Sharon, Ariel
(b. 1929)
   Israeli soldier and politician. He was born in Kephar Malal. He joined the Haganah, fought in the War of Independence, and later led a commando group. In the Six Day War his brigade broke through the Egyptian positions. In 19(59 he was appointed GOC Southern Command, and in the Yom Kippur War he commanded a division. He was elected to the Knesset in 1973, and served as minister of agriculture, minister of defence and prime minister.
